The Right Shoes for Baby

It is hard when your baby starts to stand up and takes his or her first tentative steps. Our natural instinct is to protect them from harm. In the old days, one of the ways we protected our baby was to cover their feet so they couldn’t walk on anything and hurt themselves. Often, this caused more harm than help.
Your baby’s feet are still developing and as they start to stand they are using a whole different group of muscles and joints. The feet are quite firm but they are also padded with fat. Just have a look at how rounded and soft they are. This fat layer gives then some protection while they start to stand. Once they can stand the feet will change shape and grow. The muscles of the toes and feet will strengthen as they learn to grip the floor.
The traditional style shoe is not suited to this time in your child’s growth because it restricts the flow of blood to the muscles and does not allow room for the bones and muscles of the foot to expand. Baby feet grow very quickly at this time in their life so foot coverings need to allow for that.
The best thing for baby is to go barefoot but this is not always practical. The next best option is the soft soled shoe. We stock a cute and well designed range of soft soled shoes by Absolute Tots.
